Martin Knott, Sr.

Year Inducted: 1999

Diamond K Ranch | O`ahu

Martin Knott exemplifies the hard-working cattle rancher. Originally a Kentucky boy who grew up on a tobacco and cattle ranch, he spent time in the Civil Conservation Corps, was a fire fighting forest ranger in Montana and Idaho and earned a reputation for his ability and stamina to run the forest terrain. In 1969 he established and is still managing the Diamond K ranch on the rim of Kawainui Marsh. He still has round-up every Friday afternoon. Nick-named the “swamp fox” he hosted many youth programs at the ranch, including 4-H, Boy Scouts and rodeo practices and community field trips. He believes in preserving the ranching heritage of these islands and always makes it a point to ride in the local 4th of July Parade to bring a little of it in touch with the people. He is proud that his wife, May Knott, has stuck by his side for over 55 years.
