J.C. McCarthy Sr. of Steelville, Missouri passed away Thursday, October 9, 2014 in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 92 years, 7 months and 23 days. He was born February 14, 1922 in Owensboro, Kentucky to Charles McCarthy and Ethel Rose Parrott McCarthy. On January 19, 1946 in Owensboro, Kentucky, he was united in marriage to Eva Muriel Hines who preceded him in death.
He served honorably in the U.S. Army from 1941-1946. J.C. was a truck driver for thirty-five years and retired in 1982. He was a member of the Truckers Teamsters Union.
He is survived by his son, J.C. McCarthy Jr. and wife Janice of Broken Arrow, OK; one son in-law, Vernon Booker of Cook Station, MO; seven grandchildren, Timmy, Danny, Tony, Kathy, Mindy, Brian and Greg; thirteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brother in-law, Harmon Hines and wife Lou of Mt. View, MO; two sisters in-law, Betty Wilson of Mt. View, MO and Opal Greer and husband Jim of Brandonberg, KT; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Eva McCarthy; son, Richard Lee McCarthy; daughter, Pat Booker; grandson, Paul McCarthy; brother, Russell McCarthy; sister, Bessie Mae McCarthy; three brother in-laws, J.T. Hines, Burt Hines and Tom Hines; and three sister in-laws, Pauline Hamilton, Virginia Wilyard and Martine Claffy.
The Family received friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, October 13, 2014 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, MO.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, MO with Rev. Jerry Beers officiating. Special music of "Amazing Grace" was sung and played by Rev. Jerry Beers. Other music of "Go Rest High" was also played.
Committal prayer and interment were in the Steelville Cemetery with Full Military Honors from the U.S. Army.
Honored to be casket bearers were Brian Booker, Vernon Booker, Jared Mahurin, Denver Mahurin, Darrell Blankenship and Dalton Meintz.
The Family was served by the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home of Steelville, MO.
